The Magical Mystical Muse Practice Series: March 5 until Summer Wednesday's 8:45 PM @ Mandala Community Center, 2516 Broadway, Boulder Bring drums, instruments, songs, prayers and intentions. Second & 4th Weeks are Rhythm Practice for the first 1/2 hour ONLY, then open Muse Jam! Intention is to create more songs, and rhythms that we all know together to hold a sweeter rhythm container! Come learn, share and explore our authentic voice as a community! All are invited! All Donations accepted, recommended donation $7-10! EARLY SPRING SERIES: SOUL SISTAH'S WOMEN'S DRUMMING CLASSES BEGIN AGAIN MARCH 5 in Boulder @ Mandala Community Center, 2516 Broadway, Boulder. The Class is Rockin! Drop in's are welcome: $20 per class. It's NOT TOO LATE to register for the series! I am working on organizing a bi-weekly class in Denver and Ft. Collins as well, so please keep posted and if you know of the perfect place, please do be in touch with me. THREE GREAT CLASSES to choose from for all levels! Djembe Classes: Level 1, Wednesdays @ 7:30 PM Level 2: Wednesdays @ 8:30 PM: tentative class NEW THIS SPRING: BEGINNER FRAME DRUM SERIES: GODDESS GROOVES WHICH CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU? READ ON: Djembe Series 1: This series will last 8 weeks and will cover all the basic 101's of drumming including, but not limited to the following: -hand technique -basic sounds of the drum -rhythmical foundations -finding the pulse, the downbeat, etc. -tuning and taking care of your drum -how to find your way into a groove -ensemble playing introduction This the perfect class for you if any or all of the following fit: -You have never taken a class with Cheri -Think you have no rhythm (Cheri will show you differntly very quickly) -Have never had any rhythm or drumming experience -Have a call to drum, but don't know why or anything about it -Just love to drum and want to learn basics to expand upon as you grow -Have tried drumming in mixed or male dominant environments and felt intimidated, uncomfortable or not at ease in any way and want to break out of that, so that you can play with ANYONE and feel confidant, at ease and in your power as a woman and a drummer. -Have some experience but want to really anchor the basics. Djembe SERIES 2: This 8 week series, the Second Series of the Soul Sistah's Drumming is dedicated to gaining a basic 101 understanding of rhythm, pulse, time signatures/feels, and the basic building blocks of rhythm as well as deepen your ability to complement parts and play ensemble rhtyhms. You will be asked to create a rhythm song of your own in groups of 3 upon complettion of the series to apply directly what you have learned. This class is perfect for you if: -You have been drumming for some time and want to understand on a different level what is happening You want to play more music with bands and others You know how to "play" the drum, but get lost when things get technical You want to learn more and understand more You have any intrest in creating songs or interesting rhythmical ensembles You just love to drum and want to learn everything you can You've taken my series 1 class Pre-Registration is required for this class by Feb 23. FRAME DRUM BEGINNER LEVEL CLASS: Monday's 6:30 PM This class is for those who are interested in learning the Frame drum which is a drum that has roots to the Ancient Goddess Mythology and history from Ancient Egypt, Cyrius and really all over the world. (See Layne Redmond's book: when the drummers were women) This is a more delicate style of drumming and a very personal experience with the drum. This will be a 8 week series and this class will be limited to 15 women so please register early. Pre-Registration is required for this class by Feb 23. Drums will be available for purchase or rental.
